Today's Event

We had really nice weather this time around. There were over 500 people there tonight, and the music, art, and wine were great!! I enjoyed the Von Jakob wine, nice and sweet!! The Black Fortys rocked it too. I hope to see even more people there next year. It is important to keep Carbondale alive with fun events like this one, so I hope that the DAWF continues well into many years to come!!

I will be posting a few images very soon.

That wraps it up for this year, but the DAWF will be back in full swing next year!! Let's hope for better weather next May!!!

Get Ready for Great Weather and a Great Show tomorrow night!!

Tomorrow evening, October 2, the last DAWF of 2009 will be going on in Carbondale, IL. The show will feature many great wines from local vineyards!! This time, the art booths will be dispersed throughout the wine booths, making an even busier atmosphere for the artists. Please stop by to support local artists in Southern Illinois!!

I will definitely be providing images of the show in case you aren't able to make it.

But, if you are in need of a gift for holidays or other, and also want to enjoy live music and good drinks, please come by for a really fun time!!

This event is fun for the family, and anyone of any age!! Seating is readily available for everyone, and there is a dance area too.

The forecast is supposed to be super nice and just a tiny bit chilly, so bring a jacket so you can stay all night!!

Live music from the Black Fortys and another cool lady.

Just a Few More Months

Just wanted to keep everyone happy and excited to attend the next Downtown Art and Wine Fest. Just a few more months until October 2, when the final DAWF of 2009 happens. In the mean time, feel free to visit the up and coming Farmer's Market in that area of Carbondale. Hopefully next weekend will be just as nice as this one was, so the time will be right to visit!

Thanks again for everyone's help and participation in helping make Carbondale's downtown area thrive!

Rugs, Rugs, and more Rugs

I had a chance to actually touch these woven rugs and they are just beautiful. I was so impressed with the huge amount of work put into each and every item she makes. She even does some rugs that are woven out of strips of fabric. Nice work. See her website HERE.

Yolanda Jeweler

Yolanda is a local artist who participated in the DAWF this past weekend. She makes beautiful jewelry out of precious metals. I love the whimsical look of her pieces too. She attends many art fairs in the area, and has a beautiful and professional setup too. Her work is top notch.
Please feel free to visit her ETSY SITE, and support local artists.

These pictures include Copper and Sterling Silver Earrings, 23K Gold Plated Earrings, Silver-Soldered Copper Applique, a Sterling Silver Bracelet, and more.

Tonight's Festivities...

There was a good crowd tonight. I got there about 7:30, and the live music was in full swing. Everyone seemed to be having a great time. The entry fee was $5 for non-drinkers, kids under 12 FREE, and ONLY $10 to receive a wine glass and get to sample all of the drinks. That is a good deal.

I saw some really great artists there. Some I knew from last year, some (many) were new this year too! The music I saw was of the James Brown era-type too. People were dancing and having fun. The kids were really getting into the music too.

Overall, this event was fun to attend, and the weather was so amazing today. Even possibly light jacket weather tonight too.

Some of the artists included: Courtney Smith (Coordinator and Screen Printer), Ashley Gierke (Amazing and Intricate paper cutouts - WOW!!), Blissful Notions (Janice Plemon), Ken Burnside (Landscape Paintings), The Hemp Master (Brennen Stanley), Morgan's Serendipity, Miranda's Loom (www.mirandasloom.com), My Sister 2 (Soaps n Such), Ruth's Soap, Josh Nobling (Painted Portriature), Yolanda (Fine Metal Jewelry), and more. I grabbed as many business cards as I could, so I am sorry if I missed your name!

Here are some images of the fair:

Hope to see you there next time...
Keep checking back for updates and links to artists' websites and contact info.

Tonight: The first show of 2009

I plan on taking a bunch of pictures and getting business cards of vendors so I can begin adding them and making this blog even more fun and interesting.

Hope everyone does really well tonight. I am sure there will be a ton of people there since the weather is awesome today. Temps under 80, and under...

June 5th DAWF

The coordinator of the show emailed me with this cheery message:

"Hello All-

This is just a little reminder that the next (HOPEFULLY!) Down Town Art & Wine Fair
is Friday, June 5th. The set up is 3PM - 4:30PM, in Carbondale's Town Square.

We are very ready for this event to happen! We are hoping for nice weather, but
just in case, the rain date has been set for June 12th.
On May 8th, we waited until the last possible minute to cancel the event. We decided
to cancel at 1PM, then the storm came through right after that."

May Event Unfortunately Cancelled. See the DAWF in June

Due to the rather unfortunate events in Carbondale this past weekend, power outages and limbs down intervened!! The May Event unfortunately had to be cancelled. But, in about a month, the second-scheduled show will take place June 8th, 2009.

It is my greatest hope that everyone soon has power and fresh water again!! Hopefully crafters got some of their goodies organized while the TV and Computer were out of comission--I know I did!!

Carbondale Downtown Art & Wine Fair 2009

The annual art and wine fair will be held this year on May 1st, June 5th, and October 2nd. It will again be in the capital of southern Illinois--Carbondale, IL. Southern Illinois University is not far at all!

Please visit the fair if you will be in town.

Shawnee Hills Wine Trail Association will be joining the Carbondale Main Street Association once again to hold a very classy event. The surrounding downtown area is really nice. There are several vegan restaurants and a grocery shop. There are some nice coffee houses, a bar, a more upscale restaurant, and also an art gallery, Art Lovers. They will all be open for the event, so if wine is not your thing, then just come for the art and the great food.

Live music will also be there. Updates coming soon on the bands.

Bring the whole family!!!
